Pond 17

We’re certainly trying our best to cherish this one at Manor Farm. Pond 17 is unusual because it has a shallow earth ramp that nearly cuts the pond in half – it may have been a cart ramp to help remove the marl. The water in the pond is shallow with shallow sloping banks, but keeps water in it all year. The ramp and shallow banks mean that there is a slow change from wet to dry conditions; this supports a wide range of plants as well as really easy access for wildlife. In the photo the grass buffer zone has just been cut, this is only done once a year (if that).
